Discussing the exhibitted tree

The exhibition

Air layering a casuarina

I have a tall and thick casuarina at home. Anyhow, I think that it was too tall as a bonsai, as it was 1.3 m high. I saw that in the upper part there was a potential of creating it as an other bonsai. It was old and around 15 cm thick.I peeled off some 3 cm wide of the bark around the part that I wanted to cut off. Afterward I put some moss around it and covered it with coconut fibre and wrapped it.

The tall casuarina

Fortunately that it was on rainy season, so that it was no need for me to water the moss.

The upper part of the tree that was air layered

Three months later I checked that there were enough roots grew on that part. I cut off that part from the tree and put it in a deep pot, as I intended to make it as a semi cascade style.

The new tree on the new pot

One month later I wired the branches and tried to shape it as a bonsai
